Regency 1811-1837

By contrast to the Georgian Period, the Regency saw far simpler and comparatively modest fashions.

Wigs were lost and women’s clothing saw radical changes that reflected the revolutionary climate in Europe.

The empire line dress was introduced and worn without corsetry; cut under the bust the dress skimmed the female figure. Compared with its predecessors and successors the empire line dress was liberating and revolutionary, allowing women to move more freely.
